To launch the new 7-1-1 telephone number in California, OneWorld created a unique public relations event. 7-1-1 allows deaf and hearing people to communicate by telephone.

We gained the help of Willie Brown, the famously gregarious Mayor of San Francisco, to place the first official 7-1-1 call to Marlee Matlin, the famous deaf actress in Los Angeles, during which they debated which was the better city! A video hook-up allowed TV News crews in both cities to see how the service worked on either end. The event was reported widely, even internationally.
